5 unique ways to repair your business reputation
If you are a business owner, you understand how important it is to build a reputation.
The fact is, the value of your business depends on customer satisfaction. If you are a Real Estate agent and someone has a bad experience with your service, this story may get around.
One person can have a poor experience with your business and they spread this information on the internet or with their friends and so on.
Somebody will have a complaint about your business at some point and this is inevitable.
The good news is that I have several solutions for building a business reputation.
Even if someone gave you a poor review on Yelp, there are still plenty of chances to make a comeback.
So what is the best way to build a business reputation?
The answer – Create content.
Content can come in many forms. A blog, a youtube presence, instagram, a website, a magazine, and my personal favorite – a book.
Every piece of content that you share in your area of expertise is a testament to your knowledge.
You can share knowledge on how to flip a house, bake a cupcake, or even psychoanalyze a romantic partner. The list is as endless as your knowledge on your subject.
Sharing content also serves as a way to create a community around your business. So instead of only giving information, you can also create relationships.
The best way to establish a positive reputation is through trust.
So, what types of content can you create?
Below I made a list of 4 different types of content that you can make to build your business reputation.

1.) Publish a Book
There are many forms of content out today. But writing a book is one of my favorite ways to establish yourself as an authority in your field.
This one has been around for centuries.
Imagine if you met someone at a pub and they said “yeah, I wrote a book on how to create a permaculture garden.” You automatically know that this person knows what they are talking about.
Imagine how bad-ass it would be if someone Googled you and there was a book or two next to your name.
This same concept applies to ALL professions. From baking cupcakes to creating the cure for COVID-19.
Check out my personal friend Koz Khosravani. Koz is an SEO expert who has written several books about marketing your business online. This picture above is what pops up when you Google his name.
SEO books
Imagine his description without the books under his name. He would have an entirely different impression don’t you think?
Yes, writing a book can take months or sometimes even years to write. You can always hire a ghostwriter who will take a few hours to discuss your topic and they will write the book themselves.
All forms of creating content require an investment of time or money. Your return on your investment is your reputation. So, it is your decision if a book is worth your time and resources.
2.) Start a Blog
You probably already know that Blogs are good for SEO. But we don’t talk enough about how valuable Blogs can be for your clients.
One example of using a Blog for your business reputation is Functional Medicine Expert, Dr. Jill Carnahan.
Dr. Jill Carnahan’s Blog
If you look on Dr Jill’s blog, she posts at least once a week. She shares her expertise through these blogs and provides people with valuable information regarding their personal health.
Constant posts begin to build a community around your niche.
Whether you are repairing your reputation or building a new business from the ground up, you are going to need more than just a website.
If you do not have time to write blogs yourself you can always hire a blogger or professional copywriter to write blogs about your subject.
You may have vast knowledge on your subject but writing can be a time-consuming task. You can give a blogger the information they need to put an article together so you don’t have to spend extra time.
3.) Create a Social Media Account
One of the fastest-growing avenues of content creation is Social Media. This is a booming platform that is only continuing to grow in the years to come. Especially when we see new apps coming in every decade like Snapchat and Tiktok.
One example of a professional who uses social media for their reputation is Ryan Pineda. Ryan is the owner of Forever Home Realty brokerage.
Ryan Pineda Instagram
Ryan creates all kinds of educational content about Real Estate investing. This is great for his brokerage reputation. Anyone interested in working with him can see how reliable he is by following him on Instagram.
Even if you are not a client with Forever Home Realty Brokerage, you can still find value from Ryan’s Instagram.
I live in California and Ryan lives in Nevada. So there is no way that he and I could work together.
BUT I still learn a ton from him because I follow him on instagram. He posts several times a day so I learn a little bit every time he shows up on my feed
Building a reputation is all about impact. The more value you produce, the more people’s lives you will affect.
4.) Make a Youtube
If you have a computer then most likely you have looked up a “how-to” video on Youtube at some point in your life.
Youtube has become one of the most popular search engines for quick information.
Most people these days would rather learn from a video over an article because it is the fastest way to consume information.
One example of a professional who shares their knowledge via Youtube is the Legal Eagle – Devin Stone.
Legal Eagle Youtube
Devin has been a Lawyer for over 10 years. He creates educational content regarding current events and Law school. He even offers more humorous content like his video on how a “Real Lawyer Reacts to Spongebob Squarepants.”
Youtube gives you the opportunity to show your personality, your charisma, and your sense of humor. People will trust you the more they see the human side of you.
Creating a Youtube is one of the best ways to make a personal brand around your business. Books and blogs aren’t as personal as a Youtube channel because people do not see your face.
The truth is, a lot of people (including myself) prefer not to share their face on camera.
But if you are one of the brave ones, then I encourage this route.
Go create content
Now you have seen some of the ways that you can build your business reputation with content. Building a reputation takes time and effort. But just like any investment, your efforts will pay off exponentially if you are consistent.
You also do not have to stick to just one of these methods. In my opinion, you can maximize your return on your efforts if you excelled in all of the above areas.
My suggestion before creating content is to think about the pain points of your audience. You already have a business so you already know your niche audience.
When creating content, focus on your audience's needs instead of focusing on selling your brand.
*Pro copywriting tip - focus on the benefit and not just the features.
The best way to create valuable content is to focus on finding solutions to someone else’s problems.
I hope that you found something valuable in this article.
Til next time.
